When you might choose Xeomin over Botox...

When people hear "BOTOX", they know it's the injections that stop the wrinkles from moving. Who wants angry lines between the brows or Shar-pei-like furrows across the brow? Not many... That's where Botox, a neuromodulator comes in. A licensed and trained medical professional, such as a doctor, nurse practitioner, or PA, will consult with a patient to determine what they hope to achieve and will then discuss "how many units" will be required to treat the area. There are many factors to consider, such as the strength of the muscles, the size of the area, the age of the patient and whether the neurotoxin will do more harm than good-- like when there's a great deal of redundant skin on the eye lids and the area may look worse after relaxing the forehead.

Another consideration is the type of toxin to be injected. Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin are the most popular toxins. In our experience, Botox provides a stronger correction and provides a nice shine on the forehead. Xeomin, however, seems to provide a softer look while still stopping the muscles from moving. We tend to recommend Xeomin to younger patients who are just starting out with toxins so that they don't look overly "frozen". Talk to your provider about what would serve your goals best. Most providers will carry more than one brand of neurotoxin.
